Best of Brisbane Festival

With generous support from Motorline BMW, the Best of Brisbane festival raised over $100000 for the Helen Hackett Foundation.  This money will go a long way towards buying a new breast screening device for the Wesley Hospital.  A big thanks to Amaia Brookman and Alesia de Luca for organising such a fabulous event!

Lightspace is a warehouse re-purposed as a series of flexible event spaces on the lower level and shared creative studio tenancies on the upper level. The identity and atmosphere of the building are intended to be memorable, but still function as a blank canvas with scope for endless change, allowing for any event or creative use. The internal spaces have ‘strong bones’ within volumes that retain their integrity and spatial quality even when empty.

A video game bar, industrial chic warehouse and hole-in-the-wall cafe are just some of the new creative spaces transforming the city.  Serving up Genovese coffee, wholesome gourmet sandwiches and hearty delicacies with a Greek twist, Flamingo is shaking some serious tail feathers in Fortitude Valley. It might be small, but the hole-in-the-wall cafe keeps its tables filled with plates of baked eggs and brioche cinnamon toast for breakfast.

Creativity beams from the event, education and exhibition venue Lightspace. This is partially due to the venue’s open plan studio space, which offers a select bunch of entrepreneurs, artists and design teams lofty offices fitted out by OBJX www.objx.com.au. Check the website for upcoming photography exhibitions and vintage markets, or casually drop by and admire the building’s structural prowess.

Once the derelict site of a late 19th century gaol and police depot, The Barracks has dramatically transformed its heritage-listed buildings into a creative retail and dining precinct. Nestled in between Paddington and the city, the space is home to Palace Cinemas, Bittersweet ‘the chocolate boutique’ and a growing number of modern eateries including russet Spanish tapas restaurant Peasant, and – the closest thing to NYC in BNE – The Chelsea.

Nurture your inner geek and indulge in a quality drop at Australia’s first video game bar. Mana Bar is run by long time gamers and combines the latest consol experience with top shelf liquor. Decide who will get the next round with a game of Street Fighter, and make sure you drink that round before going anywhere near Guitar Hero.
